Pressing Beyond Your Feelings

Pressing Beyond Your Feelings

No doubt, feelings are real. We’re human, so things that happen to us in life, in our hearts and minds are a reality. And sometimes it’s hard to press pass our feelings when we’re hurt, discouraged, mistreated, or just don’t feel like doing something. Well, in this week’s post, I’m going to share with you how to press beyond your feelings when you feel stuck in them, but want a way out.

For starters, I would suggest going to God by letting Him know exactly how you feel. Just bear it all, sis. Cry if you have to. This whole point of this action step is to help you to be open and honest about your feelings, so that you can receive the supernatural release and peace that you need.

Secondly, I would encourage you to acknowledge where you are as it relates to your feelings, but then have a determined attitude (mind-shift) to press beyond your emotions. Because the more you ponder negative thoughts or rehash what has happened, the more you’ll feel low and maybe even go into a state of depression. This is why it’s so important to acknowledge your feelings, but then try to renew your mind and replace them with God’s Word, prayer, and allow God to shift your emotions.

Thirdly, if you need to talk to someone, pick up the phone, text, email, or inbox someone whom you trust to share your heart and what you’re feeling. This is a great release as well, especially if you have someone who will listen to you, encourage you, speak truth in love to you, lead you back to Scripture and pray with and for you. Jesus strategically places people in our lives to encourage us when we just feel yucky, hurt, defeated, or unmotivated. So, reach out, sis.

Personally, I know what it’s like to feel all of the emotions that I mentioned above, but the one that stands out the most to me in this season of my life is when I just don’t feel like working on a project that I KNOW I’m supposed to be working on. The issue is “feelings.”

Yet, when it comes down to doing God’s will, it’s not about our feelings and what we would like to do. Remember Jesus said, “I didn’t come here to do my own will, but the Father’s will.” (See John 6:38) And as Christ-followers, the same goes for us. So, when we feel unmotivated, uninspired, or uninterested, that’s when we have to intentionally decide to switch gears and press beyond our feelings. We are here to serve God and not ourselves.

So, my sister, what do you need to press through? Are your feelings getting in the way of living the abundant life that God called you to live? Are your feelings getting in the way of productivity? Are your feelings weighing you down? If so, here are a few encouraging Scriptures that I pray will lift you up out of that pit of despair, slothfulness, hurt, or discouragement.

– Psalm 28:7, “The Lord is my strength and shield, I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.”

– 1 Peter 5:6, “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.”

– Psalm 143:8, “Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting you. Show me where to walk, for I give myself to you.”

– Psalm 27:14, “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”

– Psalm 73:26, “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”

– Romans 12:11, “Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord, enthusiastically.”

I pray that these verses help you to come out of a slump. I pray that they encourage you. I pray that they will be a reminder that you are not alone and that God is with you and has sent messengers along the way to help you. Rely on Him and embrace those He has given to you to walk alongside you in this life. I pray that this post has ministered to you in ways that will enable you to press beyond your feelings. You can do it, sis!

Remember, Jesus is coming back soon! And those who endure unto the end shall be saved. So let’s be ready from the Inside Out!
