The Holy Rosary is so important, I’ve written on it 20 times…

Today, marks the 20th time that I have written on the great spiritual weapon known as the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary – yes, it is that important!  As I reflect on the Holy Rosary, I remember that throughout my life, in times when I needed prayer the most, it was always the Holy Rosary that was in my hands. From my early college days to the week my father passed away in April 2015 to praying the Rosary with my wife (weeks after we had just met), the prayers of the Rosary were on my lips.

Although the Rosary seemed to play a major part during many times of my life, it’s been over the last 12 years that the Rosary has truly become a more steadfast prayer in my spiritual life. From 2008-2010, I spent time at Franciscan University of Steubenville working on my second Masters, this time in Theology. During those two years, I took a very important class, a class that would completely transform my relationship with Our Lady, and in turn, Jesus Christ himself. The class was titled – Mary in the Modern World. It was in this class where everything for me changed with Our Lady, particularly knowledge of the Holy Rosary and the desire to pray it more on my own, and not, just in prayer groups with others. St. Josemaria Escriva once stated, “Do you want to love Our Lady? Well, then, get to know her. How? By praying her rosary.”

In August 2017, I met my wife and the mother of my two boys. We both knew that this relationship was very different than anything either of us had experienced in the past with other relationships. Realizing that we wanted to start the relationship off in the right direction, we started to pray the Holy Rosary together as part of the 54 Day Novena to Our Lady of Fatima (100th Anniversary) that was taking place in the Diocese of Phoenix.

The idea came to both of us after attending different Masses at different parishes but hearing the same message from the priests. Since those early days of our relationship, the Rosary has been a predominant prayer for our spiritual life as a married couple. We prayed it leading up to our wedding day, prayed it as we waited for our first son to be born, prayed it during my 9-month unemployment, and have prayed it often as a family. Pope St. Pius X once said, “If there were one million families praying the Rosary every day, the entire world would be saved.”

Not only is the Rosary a prayer of consolation asking Our Lady to intercede for us to Christ himself, it is also a weapon of mass destruction in the spiritual realm. Those that carry and pray a Rosary with them are people that have the ability to drop a hammer on the head of Satan and his demons. During an exorcism once, Fr. Gabriele Amorth remembers the following, “Satan told me, through the possessed person, ‘Every Hail Mary of the Rosary is a blow to the head for me; if Christians knew the power of the Rosary, it would be the end of me!’” (emphasis is mine).

If you have not prayed the Rosary in some time or maybe have never prayed the Rosary, I would highly encourage you to so. There are plenty of websites, including this one, where you can learn to pray the Rosary. There are Rosary podcasts you can listen to if you want to “pray along” with other people.

Mark my words, the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a very beneficial and powerful prayer in the life of Christian. It should in the hands and pockets of each and every one of us. The Holy Rosary should be an Everyday Carry for Catholics for it “is the weapon that wins all battles” (St. Pio of Pietrelcina).
