Trust nobody!

Trust nobody!

Can you ever really trust someone? In this story we meet an important man, who’s desperate for his son is ill. Jesus promises to help him. But can he be trusted?

Some people say: Trust nobody. Always be suspicious. And sometimes they are right…

But can you trust a promise? That’s not easy to do! Have you ever had a promise that was so huge, it took a lot of faith in that person to believe it would come true. When I was young, I wanted to sell my motorbike to someone. She did not have the money with her, but she promised to send me the money later. I did not know her that well, but my dad said I could trust her. It was hard for me, but I gave the motorbike to her and trusted her. But I was a little bit nervous. No need, it turned out that she transferred the money immediately after she got home.

In this part of Jesus’ life, we find someone who is desperate.

An important person, with a lot of power, had a sick son. In desperation he goes to Jesus. Despite his status, he asks Jesus to heal his son. He might have expected that Jesus would go with him, give some medicine, do something special. None of this happens. Jesus only speaks to him and gives him a promise. AND… the high official trusts Jesus. And he finds out later that his son was healed right at the moment Jesus spoke.

There are many promises Jesus makes. Also to you.

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out by religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” uit Mattheus 11:28-30

You can ask people around you. I believe you can trust Jesus. Really.
