Cryptocurrency network fires ChurchPop founder Brantly Millegan for 2016 tweet expressing Catholic moral doctrine…

Brantly Millegan, founder of ChurchPop, was let go by the tech “community” for an old social media post in which he shared his views on sex outside of marriage, abortion, transgenderism and contraception.

Ethereum Name Services (ENS), a virtual “community” of cryptocurrency users, has fired its director of operations, Brantly Milligan, because of a Tweet he posted in 2016, reported Coindesk.com.

In the tweet, Millegan wrote, “Homosexual acts are evil. Transgenderism doesn’t exist. Abortion is murder. Contraception is perversion. So is masturbation and porn.”

Millegan, a Catholic, is founder of the popular website, ChurchPop, and a former editor of Aleteia.org‘s English edition.

Since 2019, he served as Director of Operations of ENS. The blockchain protocol allows cryptocurrency users to find each other by converting their wallet addresses into easily recognizable custom domain names.

Nick Johnson, lead developer of ENS took to Twitter to explain his reasons for parting ways with Brantly.

“True Names Limited (TNL), the nonprofit that funds and organizes development on @ensdomains, has terminated the contract of Brantly Millegan effective today,” Johnson wrote.

“Brantly has been a valued team member of TNL for the past three years. However, as a team we felt that his position with TNL is no longer tenable.”

“Many of you were hurt by Brantly’s comments over the past 24 hours, and we strongly believe that ENS should be an inclusive community. Going forward we’ll continue to do everything we can to ensure that remains the case,” Johnson tweeted.

According to CoinDesk.com, a majority of “community delegates” from ENS voted to fire Millegan on Sunday evening, but there were a few who voiced their support for Millegan.

In an online discussion board, some members voiced support for Millegan, and protested a “cancel culture” that would punish someone for expressing his religious views.

CoinDesk reported on the exchange:

“Brantly contributed to ENS success and deserves to be here. I respect the fact that he stands by his words and doesn’t pull the usual ‘It was four years ago, I’m different now, blablabla,’” wrote “victorstark” in the discussion thread. “Woke and cancel people are more toxic than Brantly ever could be, pure herd mentality at work.”

Aleteia contacted Millegan for comment, but he indicated he had no wish to make any statements at present.
